Staying fit in Ramadan

Ramadan Kareem! it's the 5th of Ramadan already, obviously this one is going to fly by fast. One of the biggest challenges when it comes to Ramadan is staying fit, I have some tips and tricks that I personally use and going to share with you. The reason why this post is a little bit late, is that I wanted to put these tips to the test first.
Water
The 2 or 3 liters your body needs in regular days doesn't decrease in Ramadan. The different in Ramadan is that you have less time to consume them. I personally would drink at least 2 glasses on Iftar and like 3 to 4 glasses on Sohor, then the rest of the day I make sure I have my bottle with me.

Meal Planning
The 5 to 6 meals plan isn't practical in Ramadan . If you are following a calorie based diet, then you have to consume these calories in order to maintain your fitness goals. What I do is I would mix calories from meals in one keeping in consideration the amounts of carbs, protein and fats I am consuming. That doesn't mean I am going to eat rice and bread with eggs and chicken in the same meal, what I do is I kick my brown rice up a notch from 50 grams to 70 grams. I also eat Iftar and Sohor, but I make sure to have a snack in the middle.

Food Order
As soon as it's time to break your fast you think you eat everything on the table, we have all been there. This always leads to eating too much and feeling heavy after your Iftar meal. I use something that I like to call the "Etiquette trick", I start with some kind of fruit juice, then soup, then salad then my veggies and protein, finally I have my carbs. Same goes to Sohor, I have fruits and veggies before I have my cottage cheese, yogurt and brown bread.

Treats
To be realistic, no Ramadan will pass without a little of heavenly indulges. It's not a crime to have one piece of Konafa or Attayef, the crime is eating the whole tray. For me, I would have one cheat day with the same system as my regular days. I would have my cheat Iftar with the same order, the same thing with Sohor and my snack gets a little bit sweeter.

 Exercise
Unlike the word on the street, working out when you are fasting is very bad for you. The body needs energy and your workout will strip more energy from it, therefore your body won't have any energy to burn fat. Wait 2 hours after your lovely Iftar, then go to gym and do your regular exercise.

 Finally
We all have weak moments where we have multiple cheat days or when we are just too lazy to workout for a week. Make sure to keep calm and remember that it's Ramadan and you are fasting for long hours. Get yourself back on track even if you are only days away from the end of Ramadan and never think that it's too late.

5 fitness myths

I have been in the "diet" atmosphere for 10 years now. Like any female, I have had my ups and downs. What I learned during this time helped me reach a state of mind that I wasn't near when I started. I have heard and followed so many misconception regarding fitness, diet and health that are unbelievable. So many girls are still under the impression that these myths are right, and then we're left wondering "Why isn't this working?" .. here they are

"Weight training will make a woman bulky"
We have enough estrogen in our bodies to grow breasts, have babies and have less hairy bodies than men, there is no way some weights are going to make us bulky. For a woman to be bulky, she needs years of training and a crazy amount of supplements. Weight training will actually tone your body, and the muscles will increase your fat burning rate as well as your metabolism.

"Fat will turn into muscle"
Saying that your fat can turn into muscle, is like saying you can turn into a dog. Unless you cast an evil magic spell on it, it's never going to happen. Under your skin, you have your fat cells and your muscle cells. As shown in this very scientific picture, they are very different things. The way you feed and exercise your body will determine which of them will grow and which will diminish.

"This food will make you fat"

Fun Fact! A Chocolate bar has the same calories as 3 apples! There is no fat food, there is good food and bad food. Good food doesn't have saturated fats and it helps in feeding your body, bad food doesn't. Also there is something called portion; if you have a cupcake, you won't gain weight. If you have the whole cupcake shop, you might gain weight.

"Carbs are the enemy"
The classic way of starving / dieting of cutting carbs, is depressing and just wrong. The recommended ratios for a healthy diet is 50% Carbs, 30% Protein and 20% fat, you actually need carbs for your body to function. There is something called simple carbs, your body doesn't burn any calories while digesting them; these are the bad carbs you don't want. The good carbs are complicated, your body needs to burn calories to digest them; like brown bread or pasta or rice.

"Crunches will help you lose belly fat"
While you can train your muscles by spot, arms or thighs or abs; you can't target fat burning. Your body loses fat as whole depending on your body ratios. Your stomach will get smaller as you get used to eating healthier food and smaller portions, that's why your diet is very important.

2013 random favorites

I have started a little series called "2013 Love" which is basically saying what are the things I have used and liked through out the year. I have already mentioned all my Style a, this is one is a little bit different. Just Stuff that I think these are things you can try because I have tried them for you and telling you they will rock your world. Basically I am going to mention random things like food, gadgets, stationary, etc .... Everything I discovered in 2013.

Beats by Dr.Dre solo
Actually I am going to have a review on this baby, because it's worth it. It became hard for me to listen to music in other headphone, except the beats studio and Bose which are a notch above the solo beats. I love music and If you love music, this one is totally worth the price.

LAICA scale
I know that the scale doesn't define the weight loss, however you need to know at the end of the day. LAICA is really nice, it was just really nice to try electronic rather than the regular one. I think it looks really chic in my room.
The batter half & co
In 2012 I was all about cupcakes and I really love it, however things changed this year. I still love cupcakes, however I discovered The batter half &co in Jan 2013. It's amazing and I love it, everything is mentioned in the review linked above. I wish they have a Maadi branch because honestly only Zamalek is not fair for the rest of Cairo residents.

HTC desire 500
Since 2011 I have been a blackberry user, then my BB gave up on me this year. I was considering t the scale doesn't define the weight loss, however you need to know at the end of the day. The picture is off the internet because I am taking these pictures with my phone, I will have a whole post on it soon. Light years better than blackberry and the built in beats studio, right on.

Quick Oats
My daily breakfast is skimmed milk + honey + brown oats.I have tried more than one brands throughout 2013, however this one is just the best of them. I love the packaging because it's not plastic and that's better for me honestly. They are cooked easily and they taste better and they are actually the cheapest one I have tried, so totally recommend them.

Colorful Notebook
Love love love this baby, I love it so much I am using it very carefully. Look at how cute the colors are, I actually saw some furniture pieces in the same fabric. Excuse me in the back, but it has a PINK first page. I am really loving how dens the papers are, I think it would make a great notebook for sketch book portfolio for fashion or makeup.

Di'Macarons
My friend shouted "Your ultimate love" when we were in city stars, this little stand that has only Macaroons. I swear If I can name my autobiography something funny, it will be the search of the best Macaroon. It's amazing, very soft crust and amazing rich creamy filling. I didn't find any traces of this place online or any other branches. I loved them and I will totally look for it next time I am there.

Food Scale
I know I am crazy, I weigh my food. My mom loves the measuring cup that it has on top because she uses it when I am not looking. Very high quality on this, there is even a grantee. It's not ruined, I have drops of water fallen on it as well as food and it's still working. Totally recommend this one.

The Batter Half & Co in Zamalek Review

This sweet little place placed near Hilton in Zamalek, the Batter Half & Co is the perfect place to have the perfect dessert. In case you don't know the Batter is the liquid mix of cake before going into the oven. The name is different and smart, it is great as it's not restricting to cupcakes or waffles like many dessert places in Cairo are.  I have tried it back in January and I fell in love instantly, of course I kept going back. Last week, I took my friends there and they fell in love as well. I decided to throw in a quick review for this heavenly place you must try.
The shop itself is in Mohamed Mazhar street off Abo El Feda, right next to Voila. The windows are changed based on the current occasions (Valentine's, Halloween, etc...) and usually are cute enough to drive you inside. With two display refrigerators and a counter in the middle, there is cake everywhere even the counters have macaroons and bars. These refrigerators are faced with 4 shelves and 8 tall chairs for people who want to have their desserts in. The place is tiny, yet cozy and nice to have a 15 minutes off with your dessert.
If you decided to eat in, the guy behind the counter asks you to set down and he will bring you your order in a minimal white dish accompanied with a fork. After you eat, you can pay your bell and they are clear when asking if you are going with separate checks or collective. The place has few framed paintings and minimal branding to go with the simple decoration. You won't resist looking at the digital photo frame in the first counter, showing off some beautiful cake they have previously made.
If you are about to order and take your dessert outside, their packaging is so cute and unique. I can't promise that you will wait till you arrive home or at the office to indulge on these heavenly pieces.
The menu includes, macaroons, cupcakes, cake slices, eclairs, cake bites (which is a smaller version of cake slices), cake pops and more.
The cake pops are the best I have had in Cairo, with a moist creamy filing both the chocolate cake pop and red velvet cake pop were heaven in a ball. The cake itself poped off the stick both of the times I have tried it, however that didn't stop me from eating every bit of it. Each Cake pop are at an unbeliveable price 5 EGP.
The macaroons are 5.5 EGP/ piece and the pack of 14 are 65 EGP. So far I have had the chocolate, lemon, cream brulee, red velvet and pistachio, All are to die for. With a crispy light shell you break into a creamy moist rich filling that melts right away in your mouth.

I am not big on the chocolate cake thing, most of the time I get bored and overwhelmed. Both the chocolate and chocolate fudge cake slices have changed my feelings toward the chocolate cake forever. Medium layers of chocolate cake with creamy pure chocolate frosting between each layer topped with chocolate frosting, it's best to eat it vertically so you can get all the goodness in each bite.

Just when I thought I will never like a cake more than the chocolate cake slice, I was proven wrong again. Layers of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting in the middle or each layer with a top of cream cheese. I quote Monica Geller "I would show this cake good time". Each cake slice is just 19 EGP.
Everthing is so sweet and it's actually enought to have one thing at a time. If it's a cheat meal just have a strong dessert from there and keep going for more.
They also cater and make costume made cakes for birthdays and events. They have very creative cakes, like sushi look a like, Loubtoutin cake, Tiffany boxes and more
It's a must go, if you are in for a mouth watering dessert at an affordable price.
Make sure to follow them on Facbook Here

4 Levels of Eating (See which one are you)

Most of us have went through different diets and different eating phases. It's sort of known, if you wanna lose weight you eat less and if you wanna gain weight you eat more. That's completely wrong, it's not really a black or white kind of choice. There are kind of a food 50 shades of grey. Dr Ed Bauman, a holistic nutritionist and founder of Bauman College for Nutrition and Culinary Arts has got them down to 4 shades or 4 levels. If you want to know which level are you in, you need to read this post.

Level 1 = Eating for Pleasure
This level is hands down the level a lot of day to day people are in. It's an immature food approach. Basically eating food because it tastes good, never thinking of ingredients or nutrition. Food for pleasure of the tasting buds becomes a source of satisfaction for eaters at level one. Too much refined sugars, alcohol and caffeine are common choices. The eater consume as much food as he can, regardless of when he gets full. The problem with this level, that eaters tend to be have Impulsive eating. Whenever the eater is depressed, stressed or in pain, their first choice for reconciliation is food. Probably you know whenever someone breaks up, you see them with lots of ice cream, cupcakes and chocolate and that's called emotional eating.

Level 2 = Eating for Energy
I think that Egyptians and Arabs fall in this category, actually we have been raised on it. You choose to eat based on your hunger, the feeling you get when you need food. That feeling is also known as blood sugar level, eater in this level seek regulation of their blood sugar level. These eater don't really binge as much as they eat till their brain sends messages to their body that they are "full". The food quality is not a concern as much as how it tastes and how felling it is. Eating A lot of Processed foods with artificial flavors, food coloring and hormones is very common. Basically eaters make the easy choice, instead of getting your own home made food you just order with the people at work. Choices include a lot burgers, pizzas, fried chicken and sauces like mayonnaise. Because fast food is easy and filling, also it does taste good. If you would rather eat soup out of a can and not actually cook your own soup, you are a level 2 eater.  This eater has very low nutrition, is either over weight or skinny fat. A weak body is must because basically this eater has been fighting his body, regular problems include the hormonal imbalance, obesity and usual fatigue.
Level 3 = Eating for Recovery
Since we all know that we sometimes go into level one and two without realizing what are we doing to our body, it's only natural to feel guilty. The first thought that comes to anyone's mind would be, let's go on a diet. You either visit a "diet doctor" or you follow a known diet like Atkins and Weight Watchers. These diets label foods to good and evil foods, you limit the quantity and you are expected to control all of your cravings. Mostly you just see carbs as evil, you have very limited if not zero fats and sugars and your protein and veggies intake is higher. Sounds healthy, right? well it does, however these diets are mostly short lived. You lose weight at first as you are lowering all your processed foods and then you reach the point when your cheat day is a mix of level one and two. Then your cravings start to take over you, you are sick and tired on just having a salad when everybody is eating yummy pizza and pasta around you. The results are not coming fast enough, and the eater is left hungry after all meals. This level is totally better than the above two levels, however it's only a short amount of time till the eater fills off the wagon and go back to binge eating. Many people fall in a cycle of dieting then craving then binging then guilt then dieting again, that's called yo yo dieting.

Level 4 = Eating for Health
This is the healthy life style eating that Dr. Bauman purposed be optimal for a life long eating regime. Supposedly it's all about learning about the nutrition of all the food going into your body. It can be similar to level three, however you don't restrict because you have personal choice. The no restriction idea leads to moderate eating and balanced diet, the final result is claimed to be better than level 3 due to the concept with changes in the food itself as well. The concept is using food as fuel, you only get the best fuel into your car then why shouldn't you treat your body with the same concept. Concentration in preparing one's food and focusing on presentation, if your food looks good and smells good you will be more satisfied. This level is supposedly a wise approach towards one's body and food choices that leads to a healthy body. Ed Bauman introduced a model of how ideal eating for health eater should eat. This is not supposed to be just a diet to get rid of your extra body fat then go back to eating whatever you want, this is a life long guide to nourish your body. I like the fact that it has everything in moderation, it's not your regular food. He actually included oils and starches in the model which is amazing, the mineral broth is just his way of saying home made healthy soup. It's a great way to ditox one's body, however I myself think level four eater are sort of too good to be true, you can have this model and add a couple of cheat meals a week just for some pleasures. Notice that I have said cheat meal and not day, cause there is a difference between having a nice launch with friends then sharing some dessert and just plain eating greasy food off the sink. The model Bauman created is not the only model as well for Level four, because this level is a conceptual more than it's a selling a certain diet. It also goes without saying that any eating healthy regime you follow won't get you where you want without working out, however it does makeup 70% of the journey.

Taboli Salad Recipe

I am in love with the Lebanese cuisine, they somehow manage to have yummy stuff without having to be as heavy as Egyptian cuisine. A lot of their of their food is healthy, no wonder they look like that. In my journey to fat loss I have decided to spice up my diet and give myself options other than steamed broccoli. I will be posting several fun recipes that I find and try. So here we go the infamous taboli.

Ingredients

1 lemon
1 spring onion or 1 medium sized regular onion
1/3 cup of grinded bulgur
2 spoons of olive oil
2 medium sized tomatoes
1 parsley tuft
1/2 tea spoon of salt
4-5 mint sticks \
3-4 leaves of lettuce (optional)

Cooking

1) Put the grinded bulgur in boiling water and let it cook for 5-6 minuets
2) Filter the grinded bulgur from all the water and let it cool on the side
3)Wash all of your veggies, grab your wooden cutting board and let's go
4) Chop the tomatoes and onions into tiny pieces
5) Grind the Parsley and the mint together
6) Mix all the veggies together and add the bulgur gradually in a bowl
7) Juice the lemon over the mixture
6) Add the 2 spoons of olive oil
7) Sprinkle the slat
8) Mix all the ingredients
9) You can surrond it with cut out lettuce for decoration (optional)
10) Serve

Notes

This bowl is enough for 2 people and honestly if you like share it with someone and have grilled chicken or turkey breast with it, you will be full for the night.
This whole bowl is around 330 calories because of the bulgur and olive oil, I promise almost no saturated fats. The bulgur is very felling as it's carbs.

Enjoy

20 beauty tips for Combination skin

If you are not new to my blog, you would know that my skin is oily. A friend of mine actually asked me to make a blog post for combination skin, and I was like that's a good idea cause not all of readers have the same type of skin or hair or body like I do. Mostly when I blog about something, I would have tried it and searched for it; however this is not the case in here. I am basing my tips on research and some few trials.

In order to know how to take care of any skin / body / hair type, you need to understand it. Typically combination skin is a two typed skin, you've got your oily T zone "forehead, nose and face" and you've got your dry cheeks on the other hand. The oils glands on your facial skins that keeps the moisture are very active only on your T zone, your water glands on the other hand are more active on your cheeks and that leads to lake of moisture. It's not easy to have shine and breakouts on part of your skin and dry patches on other parts of your skin. These tips I have summed up for all of you out there who are combination skin beauties.

1) Half of the time, you will consider that you have two faces. You need to treat your T zone very differently than your cheeks so you can normalize them both. What will be accepted by your cheeks might not be accepted by your T zone

2) When removing your makeup, use baby wipes. The great thing about baby wipes that they don't have alcohol which is awesome cause alcohol tends to over dry the skin. Anything a mom will trust to put on her baby's butt and body, you can trust to put on your face.

3) Never use soap bars to wash your face, no matter what the advertising claim. Soap bars tend to over dry skin, even the oily parts. When you go ahead and strip all of these natural oils, your oily skin is stubborn so it will just produce more and more oils which will end up in shine, acne and white heads.

4) You will need to wash your t-zone twice a day with cleanser, however your cheeks should be washed with cleanser only once a day. Using two types of face cleansers depends on how oily your T zone is. For your T zone, a gel based or foaming cleanser is great to regulate that oily monster going on underneath. Your cheeks will need a cream based cleaner, something that contains glycerin to clean your skin and keep it moisturized. Never use a cleanser that has any type of fragrance in it.

5) Make your own toner and again you will need to tone your oily parts twice a day while your dry parts will need only one time toning, you can even use toner on your dry parts every other day. Use rose water as a home made toner. If you tend to have a really oily T zone, you can add vinegar to the rose water that you will use on your T zone only.

6) Use sun screen. I know that sounds like a dah! moment, especially that we're in the summer. Using sunscreen always prevents your face from the sun and that prevents wrinkles on the long run. Look at the ingredients of the stuff you're buying, look for itanium dioxide and zinc oxide

7) Nose patches work for me, they're not instant though. For some reason the nose is always ready to have white and black heads, I find that nose cleansing patches work wonders. I would put my head in the steamer so I can open up my pores, If you don't have one just facing steam from hot or boiling water does the same thing. Put the patch on your nose while making sure there is no air bubbles, wait for 15 minutes then remove in fast motion. Wash your face with cold water after doing so, the cold water will minimize your pores while clean. Allow a period of 3-4 days between each usage.

8) St Ives scrubs are oil free and they are amazing. Oily skin needs to be scrubbed 2-3 times a week and dry skin needs to be scrubbed once a week. Scrubbing your oily parts will get red of excess oil and dry parts needs to be scrubbed to get red of dead skin that causes dryness. You can make a good home scrub for your T-zone out of salt, and lemon, your dry skin home made scrub is made from olive oil and sugar *yummy*.

9) Make sure to moisturize your dry parts twice a day using cream based moisturizer. Your oily parts will need only to be moisturized only once daily or every other day even with a light weight moisturizer. A great natural moisturizer that can be used on both parts is coconut oil also Moroccan aragan oil.

10) Use honey as a face mask all over your face once a week. after you evenly spread the honey all over your face, get an egg, crack it and take the white of it. Spread the white of the egg on your T zone, egg whites is great to minimizing pores and shine.

11) Before your make up, use oil free primer on on your T-zone. Using a stipple brush to even out your primer is great. A hydrating serum or oil based primer on your cheeks.

12) It's not practical to use two different foundations, because it won't be easy to have two different foundation with the same shade. Using the hydrating serum will help your cheeks in hydrating under oil free foundation.

13) Buy a creamy concealer, because you will need it under your eyes to your cheeks. If you are like me and use concealer in conturing, then you will need to get another crayon concealer for your nose, forehead, above your lips and under your lips.

14) When you're done with your primer and foundation, apply mattefying powder all over your T zone area. Having done that you will prevent shine in that area and will hold your foundation for a longer time.

15) Your blush only goes on your cheeks so you should use cream blush. It won't over melt or anything, cause your cheeks are dry and they will be happy with cream based blush. Cheek tint or cheek stain mostly come in sticks and cream form, so always go for them when trying a more natural look.

16) You can use cream based bronzer on your cheeks and use another bronzing powder for your forehead and chin. The other trick is you can get a regular bronzer and dip your brush in cream nude eye-shadow before you apply it to your cheeks.

17) If you get shine during the day on your T zone, it's going to be very in practical to redo your makeup. Carrying around a little box of blotting papers is ideal for these cases. A blotting paper is a miracle because they suck up all that excess oil and they give you a matte look in a second. Just tab on your nose / forehead ./ chin with one of these papers and Voila, matte again.

18) In the winter you will need to take more care of your cheeks, in terms of moisturizing. It;s normal to moisturize more and be patient with it.

19) If you have excessive oil production, you don't want the oils your hands to add more oil to your face. Invent in a good set of brushes for your makeup, so you won't have to put your makeup on with your fingers. Makeup brushes make hell of a difference in applying makeup and the finish result. Also during the day try not to touch your face, you could have any oils from food or dirt that can get into your face.

20) Lay low on food with tons of saturated fats and refined sugar. Go for good fats and lots of veggie. The nutrition you get into your body can get you a glowing healthy skin and can ruin it for you.

Sushi chic (a complete guide to sushi etiquette)

The oldest main stream in this town is eating sushi. The instgram photos, the facebook statuses and the tweets always makes me feel that a person who's eating sushi did an achievement. Not to sound like a judgmental b*tch, I love sushi; however I am talking about the uncanny trend of our bourgeois generation. If you're a real fan of the japanese cuisine and of course you're fabulous - cause you're reading my blog, then you're about to learn what will differentiate between you and sushi posers. Here is the scoop:

Veggie Sushi
First of all , when ordering sushi, don't be ashamed to ask the waiter about the components of anything that might look interesting. You're not japanese and you're not an expert so you have the permission to ask; at least so you won't order something you regret. If you're in an ethnic place, chances are you'll be served saki; be ware it's alcoholic unless you're a drinker don't put yourself in this situation and politely refuse.

Unlike Egyptians, Japanese like to share food; so you might not want to order a plate for each person, you order for the table collectively and then you pick what you want to go on your plate. It's ok to munch on some of the small appetizers you get before the sushi, however you need to slow down on them so you can enjoy your actual meal.

Nigiri Sushi
Sushi can be eaten by chop sticks or hands. Japanese usually eat Nigiri sushi with their bare hands, it's not considered wrong to eat them with chopstick, however Nigiri is tricky as the rise might fall out of it's place if you're not a chopsticks wizard. I am just saying that because I know how to use chopsticks, I was taught how to do it by Chinese and japanese friends when I was in India, however what I see here in Egypt is a complete bull. Other types of sushi is usually eaten with chopsticks, it can't hurt if you use your hands. One important tip; you may not and can't take a bite of a sushi piece and return it to your plate, it's just not polite. Ideally you should have your sushi piece all on one bite, however if you're playing cute or it's too big for your mouth - doubtful; you can have one bite, chew then swallow and then eat the rest while it's still in your hand or your chopsticks. And don't divide your sushi with a knife or even your hands, you should enjoy the whole taste in one bite. Just don't let it touch the plate as soon as you pick it up.

There will be a warm towel in front of you on the table, it's called Oshibori. You use your Oshibori to wipe your fingers if you're eating with your hands or if you just feel like it. Don't follow the 70's Egyptian movies where they wipe their mouths with towels on the table after eating, that's considered not polite in Japan. Never rub the chopsticks you're given, that means you're removing splinters or cleaning them and it's very rude to accuse the place such a dreadful silent accusation. Of course the usual dining manner apply like no elbows on the table, don't chew with your mouth open and don't make a sound with you're chewing.

Soy Sauce
Wasabi
In Japan, chefs actually make the soya sauce and each chef has his own recipe. In the rest of the world or at least in Egypt, we're just served with a bottle of regular soy sauce. It's known that a sushi guest should use soya sauce sparingly, don't put too much soya in your saucer as it's considered rude to leave the table with leftovers soya sauce in your saucer; it means you didn't like it. I've seen some people mixing wasabi in soya and that's an even more rude thing to do, it ruins the taste of both and you probably end up with a weird looking sauce that you don't want to taste. The wasabi should be used very carefully, ideally the chef knows the right amount of wasabi to put and the guest isn't served any extra; however it's not tokyo.

Maki Sushi
When you're eating any kind of sushi, you're going to want to add some soy sauce to it. Don't dunk the sushi piece in the saucer, instead carefully let the fish on your sushi touch the surface of the soya, the rice can fall apart with soy sauce going through it. If you're eating a Maki sushi or any roll, you can let the sea weed touch the soya surface, as it's going to be hard to let the filling touch the soy sauce without hurting the rice in this case. When putting wasabi make sure you put it on the fish not the rice as well.

Pickled ginger
Usually sushi is served with amazing Pickled ginger. The pickled ginger shouldn't be put on the sushi piece, it's supposed to be eaten in between sushi pieces. It's also possible to dip the pickle in the soy sauce and move it over your sushi piece so you can enjoy soy sauce on both sushi and the pickle. When eating Nigiri sushi, it's usually served upside down with the rise touching the plate, However when you eat it; the fish should be the first thing to touch your tongue not the rice.

When you're picking up the sushi out of the main plate on the table to your plate, you use the bigger end of the chopsticks - the one that you don't eat with. In the middle of the meal you may rest your chopsticks on the small sticks holder known as Hashioki. When you finish eating you should rest the chopsticks next to each other on the soy saucer with each end facing it's similar one.

Enjoy your treat ... xx
